Our Beliefs.
The convictions that shape how we worship, serve and live together.
Our family of churches
We're an Alliance church
Freedom in Christ Church belongs to The Christian and Missionary Alliance, a family of churches with roots right here in Canada. Its founder, A. B. Simpson, grew up in Ontario and was ordained a Presbyterian minister in Hamilton before starting the movement that became the Alliance.
Being part of the Alliance shapes who we are. It gives us a clear centre, Jesus Christ, and a clear purpose: to know Him fully and to make Him known. We're a volunteer-led church, but we never serve alone.
-
A shared statement of faith
We hold the same summary of biblical truth as Alliance churches across Canada.
-
A heart for missions
From its beginning, the Alliance has existed to make Christ known, next door and around the world.
-
Partnership and accountability
We're not on our own. We're joined with like-minded churches for encouragement, accountability and mission.
At the heart of the Alliance
The Fourfold Gospel
A. B. Simpson summed up the Gospel in four words about Jesus. More than a century later, they're still at the centre of every Alliance church, including ours.
-
Jesus is our Saviour
Jesus died in our place and rose again. Everyone who turns to Him is forgiven, born again and given eternal life.
Statement of Faith 6
-
Jesus is our Sanctifier
Jesus fills us with His Holy Spirit, setting us apart from sin and giving us power to live holy lives and serve Him well.
Statement of Faith 7
-
Jesus is our Healer
Jesus cares for the whole person. We pray for the sick and anoint with oil, trusting Him for healing of body and soul.
Statement of Faith 8
-
Jesus is our Coming King
Jesus is coming back, personally and visibly. That hope moves us to live faithfully and to share the Gospel while there is time.
Statement of Faith 11
What we believe
Our core values describe the kind of church we want to be. Our statement of faith summarizes the truths we hold in common with Alliance churches across Canada.
Our Core Values
Therefore: We love Him wholeheartedly, worship Him sincerely and seek passionately to complete the work He has given us to do.
Statement of Faith
There is one God, who is infinitely perfect, existing eternally in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Our roots
How the Alliance began
The Alliance didn't start as a denomination. It started as a movement of ordinary believers who wanted to know Jesus more deeply and to tell the world about Him.
-
1843
A Canadian beginning
Albert Benjamin (A. B.) Simpson is born on Prince Edward Island. His family later settles in Ontario, where he grows up in a devout Presbyterian home.
-
1865
Called to ministry
After studying at Knox College in Toronto, Simpson becomes pastor of Knox Presbyterian Church in Hamilton, Ontario. Later pastorates take him to Louisville and then New York City.
-
1881
Reaching the overlooked
Burdened for the people his New York congregation wasn't reaching, including newcomers, the poor and the unchurched, Simpson steps out to start an independent gospel work that becomes the Gospel Tabernacle.
-
1882
Training missionaries
Simpson opens a missionary training school in New York to equip ordinary believers for service at home and abroad. It later becomes Nyack College.
-
1887
Two alliances formed
At a summer convention in Old Orchard Beach, Maine, two societies are formed: the Christian Alliance, for fellowship and the deeper Christian life, and the Evangelical Missionary Alliance, for sending missionaries overseas.
-
1897
The Christian and Missionary Alliance
The two societies unite as The Christian and Missionary Alliance, joining a passion for knowing Christ fully with a commitment to make Him known around the world.
-
1980
The Alliance in Canada
Alliance churches across Canada, with roots reaching back to Simpson himself, form their own national body: The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada.
-
Today
A worldwide family
Alliance churches now worship in many languages on every inhabited continent. Freedom in Christ Church is proud to be part of that family here in Mississauga.
“Once it was the blessing, now it is the Lord.”
That line captures the Alliance at its best: not chasing experiences, but Jesus Himself. We'd love for you to discover Him with us.
